The soul of a poet trapped in the brain of a nerd,
Adrian Toto covertly pioneered the lyric documentary genre of filmmaking.
Using his background in theatrical stage lighting, behind-the-scenes Fashion Week films, tongue-in-cheek style advertorials,
and classic documentaries, Adrian creates films that are equal parts stylish, playful and emotionally resonant.
His purpose in life is to make you cry, giggle or dance in your chair - most often all three, sometimes simultaneously.
His wife, partner and art accomplice, Joanna Toto, is an interdisciplinary artist,
with fashion work commissioned by the likes of Vogue and published over the past 20 years in too many magazines to list.
Her photography is a ballet of shapes, emotions and colors, and a constant inspiration to her fashion-impaired husband.
While introducing themselves as artists, The Totos think themselves more like a Time Travel Agency.
“Neither Fun nor Emotion want to be told what to do.”
Adrian likes a few short fashion editorial sessions, and a long fun day of people being themselves. Before you know it you forget he’s there.
“People are most beautiful when they’re being themselves.”
Yet he is there when you’re jumping on the bed, or popping the champagne, fighting mom’s tears or letting them roll as dad walks in.
When you’re at a loss for words seeing your bride for the first time, when you dance on Fifth Avenue and for a heartbeat the whole of Manhattan becomes a blur around you.
When your hand trembles so much you can’t even read your vows, when you hold your husband’s hand for the first or for the millionth time.
When you kiss your bride before you “may kiss the bride” because you just can’t help it.
When you’re holding on to the chair for dear life,
when you just - can’t - stop - kissing - the - whole - day!
“Directions are for people who want them.
Posing is for painters.
For me, all you have to do is dance to the music in your heart.
Comfortable shoes will help.”
When he comes back out from his editing cave, you cry, you laugh, you dance in your underwear and spill wine on your brand new carpet. And you’ll want to do this all over again, even if it’s midnight and you’re making the dogs bark.
“I see reality in slow motion because the day flies by too darn fast!”
Adrian sells tickets to time travel. Just because it sounds pretentious, doesn't mean it's not true. Ask your future self, scroll your life about 20 years.
“Enough jibber-jabber, let’s dance already!”
